Global Observables at PHENIX

چکیده
We present PHENIX recent results on charged particle and transverse energy densities measured at mid-rapidity in Au-Au collisions at √ s NN =130 GeV and 200 GeV over broad range of centralities. The mean transverse energy per charged particle is derived. The first PHENIX measurements at √ s NN =19.6 GeV are also presented. A comparison with calculations from various theoretical models is performed.

A PHENIX perspective on soft observables in Heavy Ion Collisions
We present an overview of measurements from the PHENIX experiment focusing on soft observables in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The excellent particle identification of the PHENIX detector at low and intermediate transverse momentum provide an extensive set of measurements in nucleus-nucleus collisions and baseline measurements in p+p and d+Au collisions. Thermalized particle spectra, strong elli...
متن کاملSystematic studies of global observables by PHENIX
Systematic studies of global observables in different collision systems are indispensable for mapping the QCD phase diagram. Fluctuations in these quantities can provide fundamental information relevant for the phase transitions. The following global observables relevant to critical behavior are studied: the longitudinal density correlation, K to π and p to π fluctuations, and the constituent q...
متن کاملThe PHENIX Potential in the Search for the QCD Critical Point
With the measurement of several observables at SPS energies that demonstrate non-monotonic behavior as a function of centrality and √ sNN , there is growing interest in pursuing a scan of relativistic heavy ion collisions at low energies at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The capabilities of the PHENIX experiment to take quality measurements at low RHIC energies is described and directly d...
متن کاملHigh-pT Particle Production in PHENIX
It has been established that "hard probes", observables involving high-momentum transfer, provide useful tools for studying the hot, dense medium created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC. The nuclear modification factor, azimuthal correlations, direct photon production, as well as the dependence of the nuclear modificaton factor on centrality and angle with respect to the reaction plane ar...

The PHENIX Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has made measurements of event-by-event fluctuations in the net charge, the mean transverse momentum, and the charged particle multiplicity as a function of collision energy, centrality, and transverse momentum in heavy ion collisions. The results of these measurements will be reviewed and discussed.. 1. Introduction The PHENIX experi...
